Government Official Confirms MoD Looking at Security Risk from Vehicles from China, as Personnel Advised to Avoid Secret Talk in Cars.

An defense official has stated that the Ministry of Defence is currently investigating the potential security risks associated with Chinese cars, while personnel have been instructed to refrain from talking about secret information in any cars.

Security Advice for Defence Staff

During a recently aired interview on LBC, Luke Pollard commented on claims that MoD officials have been instructed not to talk about classified information while travelling in Chinese cars.

The minister explained that the MoD is “examining” Chinese vehicles within its vehicle pools, but emphasised that safety is a issue in all modern cars.

We have a fleet of thousands of cars in the Ministry of Defence and those vehicles account for a very small number.
But regardless of if you’re driving a Chinese car or a car from another country, what we’ve asked our staff is not to plug MoD technology into their car, not to have discussions at a classified level in any car, due to the increasing threats of eavesdropping that are present in every single automobile, to restrict those secret conversations in secure locations. That’s a prudent and reasonable thing for everyone worried about safety.

After it was suggested that it would be wise for the MoD to cease using every cars from China, the minister replied: That is exactly what we are looking into at the present time.”

Wider Security Context

The revelation comes as reports from Norway and Denmark have alerted the United Kingdom to the presence of dual-use kill switches in Chinese-made buses, which could enable China to switch off public transport and cause disruption to transport systems.

Furthermore, a Russian intelligence vessel was reportedly directing laser beams at RAF aircrew, described as a “extremely risky” action by government representatives.

This broader security situation highlights the significance of robust protocols and vigilance in every aspects of government operations, including transport use to discussions habits.
